why is it ridiculess? misery can be very real, lasting very long, inflicting the whole existence.
Good question Oliver. The reason that it is ridiculous is because when we "see for the first time" we realize that it is our own thoughts and minds that are causing the misery and suffering. We are doing it to ourselves which is laughable. Yes, there is the immediate pain associated with loss. However, suffering is optional. Suffering is what we do to ourselves in and with our own minds. The amount of pain and suffering we cause ourselves is ridiculous. I think Mark Twain summed it up best when he said, "I've been through some terrible things in my life... some of which have actually happened."
I would just like to add that its kind of like beating ourselves over the head with a baseball bat. We just have to learn to put the bat down and the pain stops ... It's not about our life circumstances. It's about who we are being in the face of those circumstances.
